Spring 2025: Coping with Extremism in the Family and the World
When: Tuesdays 10:00 – 11:30 AM, May 6 – June 10, 2025

Where: 701 Devonshire Drive, Champaign, IL 61820
Who: Join a small group of 5-6 fellow community members in a safe space to discuss and heal from the impact of extremist ideology in family of origin, in-law and extended family, partnership, adult children, and coworkers (“work family”).
​
How: Learn and practice mental health strategies for coping with and responding to extremism in a structured, 6-week group facilitated by a licensed therapist.
​
Cost: $60/group session - 6 session commitment

Extremism = the holding of extreme political or religious views; fanaticism

Empathic burnout = exhaustion, numbing, and other symptoms resulting from prolonged exposure to others’ suffering, leading to decreased capacity for empathy and compassion

Moral injury = a profound sense of broken trust in self, others in authority, and institutions to act in ways that align with deeply held moral beliefs and expectations

Re-traumatization = symptoms triggered by exposer to people, incidents, or environments that cause a person to re-live or remember previous trauma
